FAQs

ANCHORING

What type of anchoring should I use for my Tempo shelter?

The type of anchor depends on the surface on which the shelter is installed:

  • Asphalt: U-shaped anchors (with X nails) or permanent anchors
  • Concrete or cement (≤ 6 inches thick): Concrete anchors or permanent anchors
  • Pavers: Permanent anchors
  • Loose ground (grass, gravel, sand, clay): Toggle anchors + guide cables.

Do not use concrete blocks or free weights. These are unsafe and void the warranty.

How many anchors do I need?

Install two anchors at each end (12 inches from the edge), then add more anchors along the side to ensure no more than 10 feet (3 meters) between each anchor.

COVERS / TARPS

Is your cover waterproof?

Our heat-sealed tarps are waterproof. However, sewn tarps may allow water to seep through the seams, which is completely normal. Stitching naturally creates tiny holes for the thread, making complete waterproofing impossible.

This is not considered a defect and is clearly stated in our warranty policy.

What material is used for your tarps?

We use high-density virgin polyethylene (HDPE), laminated and UV-stabilized on both sides.

Our tarps meet BNQ 3910-700 standards for tear resistance, tensile strength, lamination quality, and UV resistance.

What’s the difference between 7 oz and 12 oz covers?

7 oz: Lighter, easier to handle, ideal for seasonal use. Lasts 5–7 years in 4-season use.

12 oz: Thicker and more durable, recommended for intensive use or large shelters. Lasts 7–10 years in 4-season use.

STRUCTURE & METAL

Why choose Tempo over a generic metal shelter?
  • Galvanized tubing with 280 g/m² of zinc, twice as much as many competitors
  • Thicker poles: gauge 17 for regular models, gauge 16 for HD and TAR models, gauge 14 for 30' structures
  • Increased resistance to wind, snow load, and corrosion
Tempo is one of the only Quebec manufacturers that processes its own metal, ensuring consistent, high-quality standards.

WARRANTY

What warranty does Tempo offer on its shelters?

At Tempo, we believe in the durability of our products and we support our customers throughout their use. That’s why we offer a warranty covering the entire useful life of our shelters against any manufacturing defects.

Please note that possible water infiltration through the seams is not considered a defect.

ADVANTAGES OF BUYING

Why should I buy a shelter instead of renting one every year?

Renting a shelter can cost up to 80% of the price of a new shelter.

In just 1 or 2 seasons, your purchase pays for itself.

A well-maintained Tempo shelter often lasts 10 years or more.

Buying gives you freedom, long-term value, and flexibility in installation and removal.

USE & MAINTENANCE

Can I let snow accumulate on my shelter?

No. Snow must be removed regularly and symmetrically from both sides to avoid deformation or collapse.
Always use a suitable roof rake from the outside of the shelter.

Can I use my shelter in summer?

Our shelters are primarily designed for winter use. Prolonged sun exposure may shorten the tarp’s lifespan. If using off-season, check the cover regularly and ensure good ventilation.

How should I store my tarp?

The cover must be clean and completely dry before storage.
Store in a dry place, away from rodents and moisture.

Can I add a side door after installing my shelter?

Yes, you can add a side door, as long as it is not in the first or last section (arch), which are structural.
For those areas, a custom-sewn door is required. Contact our team for help.

When is the best time to have my tarp repaired?

Spring, during takedown, is ideal. It lets you prepare before the fall rush, avoid wait times, and ensures your cover is ready for next winter.

Can I order a custom-sized tarp?

We offer many additional sizes not shown on the website, especially for older or special models.

While custom sizes are not guaranteed, we’re happy to discuss your needs with one of our advisors.

What should I do if parts are missing from my delivery?

Before assuming parts are missing, check the assembly guide included in the box.

Many poles are universal, with holes or lengths that may look unnecessary but are meant for other models too.

If you still have concerns, email service@abristempo.com or complete our contact form. We’ll be happy to help.

I installed the shelter, but it doesn’t fit my space. Can I return it?

No. Any tarp that has been removed from its original packaging is considered a final sale and cannot be returned.

Always measure your space carefully before buying. If in doubt, contact us first — we’re here to help.

Can I move my shelter once it’s installed?

Yes, but only if you fully disassemble it first. Never drag the structure across the ground as this can damage or bend the frame.

My shelter was damaged by snow or wind. Is that covered by the warranty?

No. Damage caused by excessive snow, high winds, or improper installation is not covered.

To avoid this, follow all installation instructions and remove snow regularly.

Can I keep my shelter up all year?

Tempo shelters are designed for seasonal winter use. Leaving them up in summer increases UV exposure and may accelerate tarp wear. If you plan to use it year-round, monitor the condition frequently and speak with our team.
